I purchased the light bulb and third-generation echo dot on Black Friday. I already own one Echo Dot, and it's amazing; I primarily use it as an alarm/white noise generator and to control the lights. Smart speakers are unquestionably the future, and Amazon Alexa is one of the industry's pioneers. I purchased this second speaker for my bathroom so that I may listen to music while showering.
I believe that $40 is a reasonable price for an echo dot. I was fortunate to purchase the speaker and smart lamp for $20. For this reason, I give it five stars out of five.
Customers who are paying full price should be aware that these speakers are inferior than those found in the Apple Pod or Google Home. However, the Echo Dot is usually always less expensive than these other speakers, and I like the Alexa home app.

9. August Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Gen)

I owned the third generation of this smart lock and acquired the fourth when it became available in August. The smaller version is significantly more comfortable and appears less "chunky" and out of place, in my opinion. I particularly appreciate the simplified, integrated Wi-Fi support and the absence of a separate Connect bridge. The August smart keypad from my third-generation installation is still compatible with my new lock. I adore my August lock of the fourth generation, and I believe it looks wonderful.
However, I had difficulty integrating this new fourth-generation router to my home's wireless network.
Similar to other IoT devices, the August lock is only compatible with 2.4Ghz and does not enjoy having 5Ghz with the same SSID as 2.4Ghz. After successfully connecting these IoT devices to your 2.4GHz network, they can coexist and function normally alongside 5GHz devices sharing the same SSID.
I operate a Netgear Orbi AX mesh system that prefers and defaults to having two wireless networks with the same SSID. This blocked the August 4th generation lock from connecting to my house Wi-Fi despite my efforts (including modifying security settings, trying a guest network, temporarily hiding the 5Ghz network, lowering the power of the 5Ghz to 25 percent ). Oddly, I recall having similar troubles initially connecting the third generation Connect, but I was able to successfully connect it with workarounds at the time.
By telneting to my Orbi AX and disabling the 5Ghz radio, I was able to connect my fourth generation device. After it was successfully linked, I reactivated 5Ghz and everything continues to function. However, I am concerned that other August customers with comparable 5Ghz wi-fi configurations may experience troubles and lack the technical know-how to work around any initial wi-fi connect issues if their 5Ghz network has the same SSID as their 2.4Ghz network.

I purchased these light bulbs for a party so that my stairs would have a cool light-changing effect, and I am thrilled with the outcome!
- Installation was straightforward; simply download the app and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the light bulb to your Wi-Fi network. I was able to get the bulb operational in a matter of minutes. Additionally, NO HUB IS REQUIRED! Only the light bulb and a Wi-Fi connection are required!
- Although the bulb is multicolored, you can still modify the sort of white light it generates from a warmer yellow to a cooler blue, which is a convenient feature!
- The lightbulb is basically instant-on; there is about a quarter-second delay when the switch is flipped, but then it comes on at the last utilized color and brightness setting without needing to gradually increase in brightness.
- You have access to all the colors in the rainbow - customization is fantastic! Not only can you select up to 6 different colors for the bulb to cycle through, but you can also control the speed at which the colors change (I enjoyed fine-tuning the color-changing frequency immensely and found 92% to be the optimal speed for the stairwell) - brightness is great - exactly as advertised!
- As with all other smart light bulbs, you can set schedules, automatic on/off, etc.
Cons/Product Recommendations:
- If the light bulb is set to a color other than white, adjusting the brightness will reset the color to white. This was quite frustrating when the sole light source in the room was a smart bulb and all I needed to do was adjust the brightness; as soon as the light changed to white, the mood was destroyed. I would very much like to see that updated!
- This is a minor issue, but I would want the opportunity to cycle through more than six colors!
- In the future, I would want to see a feature that allows the bulb's color to vary with the music. I've seen others online that include it, but at this price point, I can't complain that this one does not. When there are few sockets, it would be beneficial to have options for bulbs with higher wattage.
Overall, this was an excellent buy, and I would gladly suggest it to anyone. Great value for the price!

11. BroadLink Smart Home Hub-WiFi Remote Control IR Blaster
This item surpassed my expectations. It was quite simple to set up and connect to the network. The Broadlink app is effective and simple to use for creating scenarios and adding devices. The RF range is exceptional. I placed mine between the soundbar and the television. So even if the gadget is located behind the soundbar and the IR receiver is on the front, it is easily controlled. The Broaklink is not in plain view as it is lower than the top of the soundbar. Alexa integration was also seamless. I could have saved $8 by not purchasing the model that includes a temperature and humidity sensor.
