The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall this week for an LED projector that can overheat and, sometimes, cause a fire. The projector is manufactured by Lightform and is available for sale on Amazon. Consumers who own the product should stop using it immediately. The CPSC announced the Amazon recall late last month.

To date, Lightform has received 16 reports of overheating. However, there have been no reports of an overheating issue causing injury or property damage to date.

Projectors targeted by Amazon’s recall

Again, the product in question is a Lightform LED projector involving the LF2 and LF2+ models. Both projectors are black and have “Lightform” printed on the top of the device. In terms of dimensions, both projectors measure approximately 8 inches by 8 inches.

The projectors in question were available for purchase between March 2020 and August 2021. They cost about $900 and were available on the Amazon and Lightform websites.

According to CPSC, the fan on the above projectors may malfunction and overheat. Light form notes that a software bug is causing the overheating problem. If this issue is not resolved, it can permanently damage the product and, sometimes, pose a fire hazard. This is an Amazon recall worth noting.

What to do if you have received a product

If you have any of the above products, you don’t need to throw the device away or send it back. Instead, you can contact the company to get a free software update to fix the overheating problem. You can read the firmware update here.

The company warns that users should unplug the device and stop using it until they have downloaded the firmware update.

In addition, Lightform is actively contacting all known buyers. Presumably, this list only includes consumers who purchased the devices directly from Lightform’s website.

If you have questions about the Amazon recall, you can contact Light form directly at 1-855-242-5066. The hotline is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time, Monday through Friday.
